According to a report that was published on The Verge, it looks like that Facebook wants to merge and integrate chat platforms of both Messenger and Instagram. Apparently this update has already been rolled out in some countries as recently a lot of users have reported that after updating their Instagram app on both android and iOS devices there comes and update screen with the “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram” message on it and the list of features which includes swipe to reply, more emoji reactions, new colorful look for the chats and of course the ability to chat with friends who use Facebook.
If you update you Instagram app, the standard direct messages icon in the top right corner of Instagram will be replaced by the Facebook Messenger logo. Instagram chats are much more colorful than before, with the sender’s messages changing between blue and purple as you scroll. However, at least for now, it still isn’t possible to send a message from Instagram to Facebook users.
But Facebook has made clear its intentions to integrate the messaging systems of its hugely successful apps to allow cross-messaging between Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Facebook was said to have been rebuilding the fundamental infrastructure so that users who were on one of its applications could connect to others utilizing different Facebook apps. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he wants an end-to – end encrypted system. Through combining the most common applications, Facebook will compete more specifically with Apple’s iMessage.
Instagram, the photo-sharing service that Facebook purchased for $715 million back in 2012, has so far more than 1 billion users and provided more than a quarter of the company’s sales in 2019. Instagram’s direct messaging team reports to the Facebook Messenger team and the company has recently changed Instagram’s branding to “Instagram from Facebook.”
